Little Richard

Before rock and roll had a name, Little Richard was helping define it. Born Richard Penniman in Macon, he grew up surrounded by the city’s vibrant music scene and developed the electrifying voice, piano playing and larger-than-life stage presence that would make him one of the most influential artists in music history.

Hits like “Tutti Frutti,” “Long Tall Sally” and “Good Golly, Miss Molly” solidified him as "The Architect" of rock and roll and influenced generations of artists who followed.

His early years here helped shape the performer he would become, and his legacy lives on through the city’s music history and the artists who continue to draw inspiration from his groundbreaking sound. From rock and roll to soul and beyond, Little Richard helped establish Macon as a place where musical boundaries could be pushed — and where legends loom large.
