Ocmulgee Indigenous Celebration
Overview
Recognized as one of the Top 20 Events in the Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society, this homecoming event brings together various Native American tribes, blending both traditional and contemporary elements to celebrate the beauty and vital contributions of Native Peoples to Georgia and the Southeast.
The celebration honors the people of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, who consider Ocmulgee Mounds their ancestral homeland.
This year’s Celebration features over 30 artists, traditional dance, music, storytelling, demonstrations, food and activities for all ages, including:
- Hands-on collaborative art mural project
- Artist led crafts for kids such as beading, corn husk dolls, and jewelry making
- Pottery making station
- Tiger documentary shown in the theater
- Opportunities to experience and learn about Southeastern Native American cultures
