THE BLUE HERON- set in the late 1990s, the film follows a Hungarian immigrant family that relocates to Vancouver Island. Their fresh start is upended by the increasingly volatile and dangerous behavior of their eldest son, Jeremy. The narrative is filtered through the hazy, impressionistic memories of the youngest daughter, Sasha (played by Eylul Guven as a child and Amy Zimmer as an adult). The film balances the nostalgia and wonder of a 1990s childhood against the grim, constant undercurrent of family trauma and the difficult decisions a family must make when dealing with severe mental health or behavioral struggles.
