Explore a unique Georgia experience with fruit stands, hand picking-patches, homemade foods, and so much more. These places are more than your average farmers market and perfect for people of all ages.
Two teens and a toddler: entertaining two widely different age groups is always a challenging task.
Luckily whether you’re visiting Macon or if you even live here, there’s always something to do! Just the other day I loaded up my three kids and decided to head out to Musella, Georgia’s Dickey Farms to participate in some strawberry picking. At least one child out of the three rolled their eyes at the idea, but that one plugged in their earbuds and turned on their music as we drove around twenty minutes outside of Macon.
Two out of three kids got out of the car, happy to breathe in the outdoor air and get in the sun. One dragged along behind them.
What I didn’t anticipate was that by chasing a toddler through the strawberry patch we would all get in a little bit of exercise, too! Always a pleasant surprise. But it wasn’t just picking the strawberries that we did, although we did somehow come away with five POUNDS of strawberries- which lasted way longer than the ones from the grocery store, we also got towering swirls of soft serve ice creams. Strawberry only for the older kids, while the youngest and I shared a strawberry and peach mix.
By this time, the one child who had initially grumbled about the trip had been won over by the cute shirts in the market as we all chased the youngest- he had found one of their toddler sized grocery carts and had joined a legion of children making circles in the market. I had hoped to have some leisure time in the white rocking chairs, but that did not happen.
I loved getting the chance to take my family somewhere that showed them a taste of the agricultural systems that feed us here in Middle Georgia- a chance to appreciate where our food comes from. Not to mention it was a super easy, less than a day trip near home.
There’s also a super cute playground for the young ones and all of the vegetables you can think of for purchase.
