Beyond Boo-ked
Your Halloween Guide to Macon
From haunted happenings and Halloween events to seasonal celebrations and things that go bump in the night, October is one of the most exciting times to experience Macon.
Whether you're looking for family-friendly fun, a good scare or an excuse to put on a costume, there's plenty to keep you boo-ked.
Moonlight, Mischief & Magic
Halloween in Macon doesn't always happen behind four walls. Sometimes, the best adventures happen under an open sky — especially when the moon is full and the river is calling.
Grab your paddle and get ready for a little aquatic Halloween fun with the Macon Witches Float, where costumed witches take to the water for a spellbinding day on the Ocmulgee River.
When the moon is shining bright, join a Full Moon Float for an evening on the river surrounded by moonlight, cool fall air and a little nighttime magic.
Trade the haunted house for the haunted river. Round up your crew, grab your costume and get ready to make some Halloween memories under the stars.
When the sun goes down, the curtain goes up. This Halloween, Macon’s stages come alive with performances that bring monsters, mayhem and some of the city’s most infamous characters into the spotlight.
Dancing with the Dead
Start the season with a Haunted Brunch at Switch Bar, where Sunday brunch comes with a side of the supernatural. Enjoy a hauntingly good meal while some of Macon’s most infamous spirits take the stage for an afternoon of eerie entertainment.
Then, prepare for a hilarious take on one of literature’s most legendary monsters with Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors. This fast-paced theatrical romp puts a comedic spin on the classic vampire tale, serving up plenty of laughs, chaos and Halloween fun.
For a performance that turns the entire street into a stage, don't miss the 19th Annual Thriller Parade. Watch more than 100 zombie dancers recreate Michael Jackson’s iconic “Thriller.” The parade is surrounded by a two-hour pre-show and family-friendly street afterparty, making it one of Middle Georgia’s biggest Halloween celebrations.
There’s plenty of family-friendly fun for little monsters, too. October brings pumpkins, costumes, creepy-crawly discoveries and plenty of opportunities to make memories together.
Little Ghouls, Big Adventures
Start with classic fall fun at Dickey Farms or Corn Maze Play Dayz at Lane Southern Orchards, where getting lost is half the adventure. Wind your way through the corn maze, pick out the perfect pumpkin, take a hayride and let the kids loose on playgrounds, jump pads, barrel trains and more.
Or head to Fall and Fossil Fest for a day where prehistoric creatures meet autumn fun, with dinosaur programs, fossil activities and pumpkin carving.
When Halloween night finally arrives, Macon transforms into a BOO-tiful, family-friendly candy trail, with local businesses opening their doors for trick-or-treating. It's a festive, walkable way for families to fill their candy buckets and soak up the Halloween spirit.
For families with kids who are ready for a little more mystery, ParanorMacon offers a fascinating look into the paranormal world, while Haunted Trails turns up the fright with eerie encounters and creepy surprises.
Raise Your Spirits
When the sun slips below the horizon, Macon takes on a different kind of glow. Streetlights flicker to life, shadows stretch across downtown and Halloween hangs in the air. Step into Switch Macon's Spookeasy Apothecary, where the themed bar is already transformed for the season, with spooky food and drinks waiting behind the door.
Then, gather your coven and head into the night for the Booze & Boos Bar Crawl or Do the Halloween Bar Crawl. Follow the trail of costumes, cocktails and Halloween revelry as you make your way from one spirited stop to the next. You never know what — or who — you might encounter along the way.
So dust off your costume, round up your favorite creatures of the night and raise a glass to Halloween in Macon.
With centuries-old buildings, historic neighborhoods, grand theaters and cemeteries filled with stories, Macon has plenty of history hiding in plain sight. During Halloween season, local tours reveal the legends, mysteries and spirits that linger just beneath the surface.
