Spanish-Speaking ‘Soul Sights’ Tour
Visit Macon Now Offers Spanish-Speaking Tour of its ‘Soul Sights’ Van Tour
MACON, GA (September 5, 2023) — Visit Macon is proud to announce the offer of Spanish-language tours for the first time in its history beginning this month.
Visit Macon invites members of the press, its community partners and supporters to a free sample of the new guided tour on Wednesday, September 6 at 2 p.m. Visit Macon’s Downtown Visitor Center will also host a short meet-and-greet, as well as light refreshments.
In an effort to reach out to the growing population of Macon’s existing Spanish-speaking community and an influx of Spanish-speaking visitors to Macon, Georgia, the tour is now permanently available on the second Friday & Saturday of each month and can be booked by visiting visitmacon.org. In the event that a group would like to schedule a tour outside of this monthly offering, visitors and/or planners are encouraged to call the Downtown Visitors Center at (478) 743-1074 to request availability, or step-on tour guides may also be arranged for bus groups as well.
The 1-hour guided van tour provides visitors with insights of Macon’s rich history – from its architectural masterpieces to the places that inspired musical legends – through Macon’s most soulful stories at the city’s most historic sites.
“We’re thrilled to be able to offer this new Spanish-language tour as another way to provide a welcoming experience for all of our guests,” said Gary Wheat, President & CEO of Visit Macon “Our mission is to continually expand our offerings for, and in response to, our growing and diverse visitors!”
“Our Spanish-speaking visitors and members of Macon’s Latino community can now experience Macon’s “Soul Sights” tour just in time for Hispanic Heritage Month!” said Kimberly Chambliss, Director of Visitor Services. “However, this is really just the beginning of many offerings we are working on! We are currently finalizing multilingual translations of our welcome video available to anyone to watch FREE inside the Steven Fulbright Theatre at our Visitors Center. From our partnership with the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and its artists that has allowed us to expand our souvenir shopping offerings – to our handicap accessible center and forthcoming vision & hearing impaired edits to our historic timeline display – we aim to make the Macon visitor experience as inclusive as we possibly can.”
The Downtown Visitors Center is open Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm and Saturdays from 10am until 4pm. English-speaking tours are available Fridays & Saturdays at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for $8. Military & student discounts are available.
