Film Macon Trail Launches
Visit Macon Launches the Film Macon Trail, Showcasing Sites Seen on the Big Screen
MACON, GA (August 16, 2023) — On Wednesday, August 16, Visit Macon launches the new Film Macon collection on the Tour Macon mobile app. The easy-to-use mobile app will serve as the ultimate companion for visitors to explore Macon's film industry and discover over 25 locations and 40 productions filmed around in the city. The Film Macon collection is available for free in the Tour Macon app in the Apple or GooglePlay app stores.
Georgia has had a long and distinguished history of filmmaking that began as early as 1912, and the Central Georgia region has been the location of choice for a number of film & TV projects, like most recently Tyler Perry’s A Jazzman’s Blues (2022), the 4th installment of Disney+/National Geographic’s Genius which follows the stories of Martin Luther King and Malcolm X (2023), and The Color Purple musical remake by Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg releasing in December 2023.
Macon is one of Georgia's three Fall Line Cities and has a unique geography of rolling hills and flat plains making it an ideal location for film production. In addition to its natural resources, Macon is also home to 5,500 National Register historic structures in 11 historic districts. Amazing architecture, multiple industrial locations, a large local talent pool, affordability, and true southern hospitality make Macon a great location for filmmaking.
“The app is a great way for film enthusiasts and potential filmmakers to get a sense of how Macon can easily transform” says Aaron Buzza, Senior Vice President/Chief Operating Officer of Visit Macon and Macon Film and liaison for the Macon Film Commission. “From iconic blockbusters to independent films, mini-series made for television or reality shows, Macon has the ability to be the set for a variety of productions.”
