Macon Music Trail Launches
Take a Tour through Macon’s Music Heritage with the Macon Music Trail
MACON, GA (November 12, 2022) — On Wednesday, Jan. 25, Visit Macon commemorates the unveiling of the new ‘Macon Music Trail’ mobile app. The easy-to-use mobile app will serve as the ultimate tour companion for visitors to discover and explore Macon's music assets, from well-known attractions like the Big House Museum and H&H Restaurant to businesses like Gallery West and Fresh Produce Records. The Macon Music Trail app is available for free download from the Apple or GooglePlay app stores or by visiting maconmusictrail.org.
Beginning at 2pm with a press event and ribbon cutting, Visit Macon’s Visitor Services team in partnership with Rock Candy Tours will offer a limited series of guided tours originating at the Downtown Macon Visitors Center (450 Martin Luther King Blvd.) and previewing just some of the historic sites along the new self-guided trail. The trail moves onto sites like the historic Tic Toc room and then ends at Capricorn Sound Studios & Museum.
The celebration continues at 6 p.m. with a celebration & Launch Party at Grant's Lounge where the weekly ‘Macon Music Revue’ featuring Charles Davis & the Velvet Sound takes the stage at 7:30pm.
The Macon Music Trail app marks the latest installment in an ongoing documentation project to interpret and celebrate Macon's rich and diverse music heritage. The initial effort began in 2016 with the development of the Historic Macon Music Registry and the placement of plaques on registered points of interest. In 2018 -- with funding from The Charles E. Cox Family Trust -- Visit Macon, Historic Macon Foundation, The Georgia Allman Brothers Band Association, Middle Georgia Archives and Rock Candy Tours partnered to develop a printed music tour brochure. The Macon Music Trail app elevates and enriches this historic registry into a self-guided tour experience by serving as a digital companion that can be continuously expanded and updated with GPS locations, stories and multimedia, like those provided by our information partners at the Middle Georgia Archives.
"We had already planned to launch the app in 2023, but with Macon's notable inclusion on several national ‘Best Places to Visit in 2023’ lists -- by internationally recognized publishers such as The New York Times, Frommer’s, Conde Nast and Bloomberg -- the timing couldn't be better." said Marisa Rodgers, Visit Macon’s Director of Marketing.
“This is also a special year of celebrating Macon’s rich history during our bicentennial celebration. And with music roots as deep as those here in Macon, we needed to have this beautiful history more accessible and readily available to anyone who plans to join us in the future!”
