Macon+Bibb’s Future Arena Rendering Reveal Highlights New Destination Venue for Central Georgia
MACON, GA (June 24, 2026) — Visit Macon is pleased to share support for Macon+Bibb County’s continued investment in the future of sports, entertainment, meetings, and events with the development of the new Macon Arena, a modern, multi-purpose arena campus planned & located on the East Bank of the Ocmulgee River at 305 Coliseum Drive in Macon, Georgia.
The new arena is designed to expand Macon+Bibb’s ability to host concerts, sporting events, family entertainment, community events, trade shows, conventions, and other large-scale gatherings. With a projected completion target of 2028, the arena campus is expected to include a new multi-purpose arena, adjacent Flex Hall, premium hospitality spaces, structured parking, and updated fan technology.
As convention, meeting, event, and sports planners continue to look for flexible, competitive destinations, the new Macon Arena will strengthen Macon’s sellable assets and create new opportunities for Visit Macon to position the destination for regional and national events at approximately 250,000 square feet. The adjacent Flex Hall, planned at approximately 30,000 square feet, adds valuable event space with potential usage for warm-up areas, breakout sessions, vendor space, community programming, or additional event capacity. The added flexibility also creates opportunities for multiple events to happen within the arena campus at the same time.
“This project gives Macon another important tool as we continue to compete for conventions, meetings, events, sports tournaments, and entertainment opportunities,” said Gary Wheat, President & CEO of Visit Macon. “A modern arena campus with flexible event space helps us tell a stronger story to planners who are looking for destinations that can meet a wide variety of needs. It is an investment not only in tourism, but in the long-term economic activity and quality of life for Macon+Bibb County.”
Current design-development information estimates the arena-only capacity at up to approx. 10,200 guests, depending on event configuration, with additional campus occupancy of up to approx. 12,300 when the Flex Hall is included. The facility is expected to include additional space for hospitality suites, loge boxes, structured parking, and additional surface parking.
The new Macon Arena comes at a time when communities across the region are evaluating ways to expand their own sports and entertainment offerings. For Macon, the project represents a forward-looking investment in the visitor economy, helping the destination remain competitive while offering a highly convenient location directly in the center of the state at the intersection of I-75 and I-16.
