Madeline Dukes Exhibit

Overview

South Carolina artist Madeline Dukes is visiting Macon in June to share her art through a pop-up exhibit, artist talk and 3-day painting workshop. The 567 Center is thrilled to invite the public to see her work and meet the artist on June 18, 5-7 pm.

Dukes’ work has been selected for several juried group and solo shows at museums and cultural centers in North and South Carolina. Her work has also been featured in Fine Art Connoisseur and can be found in private and corporate collections throughout the U.S. including the ACE Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana.

From the artist:

"Landscapes and organic forms are the subjects of my paintings. Music is incorporated throughout my pieces in a visual format. Although I complete most work within my studio, I also employ an interactive process of observation in nature to capture color, rhythm, depth, line, and atmosphere. For me, this is where the painting begins.

Once I connect with the subject matter, I begin the sketching process while incorporating various mediums to notate my experiences. I tend to push juxtapositions within the work, much like a musical composition. For example, I place light notes of color against dark deep forms. Or I may include big rhythmic swathes of paint that rest among quiet neutral spaces of patterned papers. My purpose is to create transformational art that marries both the three-dimensional aspects of my subject and the music it brings to the canvas."
