Mercer Music at Capricorn
Overview
Through Mercer Music at Capricorn, Mercer has put a historically significant facility back to work, not as just a museum, but as a tool to advance a vibrant music scene. This unique restoration and revitalization project provides a venue where the inspiration of the past facilitates creativity and collaboration for a new generation of artists to build on Macon’s rich, and internationally important, music and cultural legacy.
While Capricorn’s fully restored original sound studio is not available for special events, The larger 1,400-square-foot Phil Walden Memorial Studio and adjacent lounge/bar is available for special events. This space features a movable stage with performance seating for up to 60 people. The room is also equipped with concert-grade sound and lights and a large-screen projection system for presentations. If you would like the full Capricorn experience, in addition to Studio B & the lounge, your event can have exclusive access to our interactive Capricorn Museum and a tour of Historic Studio A.
The Museum at Capricorn interprets the history and impact of Capricorn Records and Capricorn Sound Studios in the context of Macon’s rich music heritage. More than 1,200 square feet of artifacts, murals and interactive digital kiosks featuring music, video and text bring Capricorn’s story to life.
Mercer Music at Capricorn has an additional two conference rooms with 90” screens, wireless internet and stereo speakers to meet your audio-visual needs. Both rooms accommodate up to 25 people and include white boards and easily re-configurable tables and chairs.
