PlayList: Rose Hill Cemetery
Rose Hill Cemetery is 50-acres of history, art, nature and stories. A place where legends were inspired and where some famous figures lay at rest today.
Opened in 1840, Simri Rose, a horticulturist and designer -- who was instrumental in the planning of the city of Macon -- planned Rose Hill Cemetery in return for being able to choose his own place of rest amongst the beauty. It was a frequent hangout, as well as artistic inspiration, for the Allman Brothers Band! Duane, Gregg, Butch Trucks and Berry Oakley are interred here and many continue to visit and pay their respects to these legendary musicians here today.
Not only is it a peaceful & respectful place of remembrance, but it is also a park meant to be enjoyed and shared with everyone! Filled with trees, plant life and rolling hills, each step is also a journey through time, and they have done a beautiful job helping you discover the stories with QR code plaques along the way! Plan your visit to walk these beautiful hills on the banks of the Ocmulgee River today!
