Macon Music with Kirk West of Gallery West | Macon, Georgia - Where Soul Lives
Macon, Georgia's music history wasn't just built on the music makers. It was built on an industry of creativity and the celebration of all things music.
Kirk West -- former photographer for the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun Times and Chicago Reader -- went on to become "Tour Mystic" for the Allman Brothers spending over 20 years documenting, archiving and preserving that legacy as well as performances by music giants, like the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, the Who, Tom Waits, Bob Marley, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash and countless others!
To say that Macon's music heritage would not be where it is today without the vision of Kirk West, and his wife Kirsten, is simply an understatement of mystic proportions! Many years ago, the couple heard of a very enticing piece of real estate available and moved their home to Macon, Georgia where they began the process of preservation that is now our beloved "The Big House Museum" and where they continue to be a vibrant piece of Macon's modern music story as well.
Gallery West (located at 447 3rd Street) is now the premier stop for any music fan! From blues to rock to country, Kirk was able to be there at special, personal moments of music history, whether on stage, backstage, at home or in the studio. Peruse the collection of prints, canvases and books... and take home a little piece of Macon's music heritage! Plan your trip today at visitmacon.org.
