Unleash Your Mayhem in Macon: Family Fun Hockey Games & Ice Skating
Unleash Your Mayhem in Macon
Ice Hockey is the fastest team sport in America, as skaters sprint non-stop on a slick ice surface chasing a frozen puck, all while substituting players in and out for breaks without any gameplay stoppage. It is physically demanding, hard-hitting, fast-paced, and non-stop action. It is something everyone should experience live at least once in their lifetime, and if you haven't there is no better place to do so than at a Macon Mayhem game in the Macon Coliseum.
History of The Sport in Macon
Professional Ice Hockey has a rich history in Macon as the first team, the Macon Whoopees, was established fifty years ago in 1973. This team was followed by three other teams over the years including the current team, the Macon Mayhem, which relocated to Macon from Augusta and began playing in the Metroplex Coliseum in 2015. The Mayhem have captured two season titles and won the league's President Cup Championship, all in the same historic building where Elvis Presley performed. The Mayhem play in the SPHL league which is celebrating its twentieth-year anniversary as a quality single-A level developmental league. Most of the young men on the team played ice hockey in college and are only a couple years out and striving to make it to the next level, with about half being American vs Canadian with some occasional Europeans on the team. Coming to watch a hockey game at the Coliseum is truly experiencing living history with a touch of international flair, including a Canadian flag hanging next to the American one.
"New Macon Mayhem"
But all of this rich history is getting a face lift in the 2023-2024 season as the entire game experience is being transformed under new ownership, with new investment and new ideas to create a transformation from Mayhem to Absolute Mayhem! Under the direction of the expanded new ownership and management team, the "new" Macon Mayhem are striving to provide more entertainment to Macon and Middle Georgia fans than ever before. The Mayhem play 28 home games from October to April, and each of these games now has a unique theme production during intermissions added to the quality ice hockey game play. The productions are designed to provide added entertainment for fans new and old. The goal is to attract new fans who are looking for fun entertainment while increasing the entertainment value being provided to its die-hard hockey fans, boosters and season ticket holders who have been and continue to be the backbone of the franchise.
First Place for Family Fun
Game theme productions include "Star Wars", "Snoopy & Peanuts", "Scooby Doo", "Macon Music", "DC - Batman", "Jurassic World", "Georgia National Rodeo", "Country Moo-sic", "Margaritaville" and many more. Coupled with an entire "Military Appreciation Weekend" which highlights Robins AFB and all of our local Armed Forces there is something for everyone. The chilled ice environment provides the ultimate venue for sweaters and the feeling of winter even if it's warm outside. When you come to a Macon Mayhem game you will experience the fastest sport in America combined with everything from small dog races on ice and inflatable dinosaur races on ice, to live alligator exhibitions, farm animal exhibitions and live musical bands!
Kids usually have an opportunity to get on the ice during an intermission at most games and there is often an opportunity for children and adults alike to skate with the hockey players after the game.
For families, individuals or groups, the team strives to provide "Absolute Mayhem" at entry-level ticket prices comparable to the price of a movie theatre ticket. Games are played at the Macon Coliseum Fridays at 7:00 pm and Saturdays at 6:30 pm, with a few Sunday, Monday and Thursday games mixed in the schedule. Tickets are available at the box office and online. For more details check out www.MaconMayhem.com
