OCMULGEE MOUNDS NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK

It is at this historical site where the Muscogee (Creek) Nations once lived, the descendants of those who created the historical mounds that can still be observed today. OCMULGEE HERITAGE TRAIL
As one of Macon's many gems, the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail is over 11 miles long and stretches along the sides of the Ocmulgee River and even through parts of downtown Macon. Recently the trail was even expanded to include a quarter-mile section of trail that connects the Jay Hall North River Access to the overlook. at Amerson River Park. What a perfect way to take a city stroll and enjoy nature!

Brown's Mount in Bond Swamp National Wildlife Refugee
Brown’s Mount is an 189-acre ecological feature that rises steeply above the Ocmulgee River basin just south of Macon, Georgia. "At Brown’s Mount, four distinct areas of Georgia come together like a Four Layer Cake at Georgia’s Fall Line: at the base, Swamp with low elevation, aquatic plants, and sediments from the Ocmulgee River; Coastal Plain with sandy soils and a flatter slope conducive to longleaf pines and reptiles; Piedmont with moderate slopes, clay soils, and a more mixed forest community; at the top of the Mount the landscape becomes more Mountain-like, with exposed limestone and clay layers." -- Red Dirt Vagabond
