In conjunction with Macon’s Bicentennial and the grand re-opening of Fort Hawkins, Macon’s birthplace, Middle GA Podcast has just launched a multi-episode series of podcasts about the historic fort. In the first episode, the man for whom the fort is named is interviewed. Marty Willett began portraying Colonel Hawkins during the fort’s bicentennial in 2006, and he revives that role for this interview. Future episodes in this historic series will include archeological findings at Fort Hawkins, the fort’s role in Macon’s history, the elementary school called Fort Hawkins that once occupied much of the fort’s area, and the future for Fort Hawkins. The fort is now open for tours every Saturday and Sunday at 12noon.
